Dr. Gony-Mustafa Sharif is a distinguished academic, business leader, and development expert with extensive experience across multiple sectors, including urban planning, finance, renewable energy, and political reform. He holds a Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning from Texas A&M University, where his research focused on energy sustainability. His academic background also includes an MBA in Banking and Finance from the University of Stirling and an Associate Degree from the London Chartered Institute of Bankers. He began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Sudan for Science and Technology.
With over three decades of professional experience, Dr. Sharif has made significant contributions to academia, international development, and the private sector. Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Urban Planning at Texas Southern University, where he continues to advance the field through teaching and research. His professional career includes leadership roles such as Deputy Director of the Sudan Sustainable Livelihood Project (SSLP), a World Bank initiative aimed at promoting economic development in Sudan, and Founder, President, and CEO of RehabNOVA International, an organization dedicated to innovative solutions for sustainable development.
Dr. Sharif’s expertise is broad and deep, covering areas such as urban planning, sustainable economic development, capacity building, finance, renewable energy, and political activism. His international experience includes a pivotal role as Director of Capacity Building, Training, and Development at Oman International Bank, where he spearheaded initiatives to improve human capital. Additionally, he held senior management positions at Wells Fargo and H&R Block, as well as consultancy roles at the Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation.
A dedicated and tenacious advocate for a new Sudan, who has been a member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) for more than three decades, Dr. Sharif co-founded the Sudan Expert Advisory Group (EAG-Sudan), a think tank focused on developing strategies for Sudan’s future.
In recognition of his professional achievements, Dr. Sharif has received several honors, including the Department Head Award from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture and the Top 10% Assistant Branch Manager Award from Wells Fargo. He has also been honored by Oman International Bank for his contributions to capacity building.
Fluent in both English and Arabic, Dr. Sharif is proficient in a variety of data analysis tools, including SPSS, STATA, and QuickBooks, as well as educational technologies such as Camtasia and Blackboard. In addition to his professional and academic endeavors, he is a published author, with his memoir released by Page Publishing in New York.
